Install Notes:
- If you are downloading the launcher, run ‘SetupLauncher.exe’. If you’re downloading an individual build, run the installer, or, (in the case of original release versions) extract the zip file or mount the image, then run ‘autoplay.exe’. See here for help mounting disc images.
- Go to the install directory, go to the properties of BIONICLE.exe, select “Run as Administrator”, and set the compatibility mode for the executable to Windows XP.
Launcher Notes:
Please note, that if you have installed any builds from the standalone files, be them the disk image or the extracted installer, the launcher will need to be directed to where you have installed the game. You may do this by selecting the appropriate game version in the launcher, and follow the prompts to browse for the game’s installation folder.
You will not be able to have multiple versions of the game installed simultaneously to the same place unless you’re installing the patched versions.
Compatibility:
Hardware and OS versions the game does or does not work with:
- Graphics cards:
- Nvidia
- AMD
- ATI
- Intel graphics (some may have issues)
- 3dfx Voodoo 2 (largely untested, but reportedly some may work without any patching or the
SvpRad
option in the alpha)
- Operating systems it has been run on:
- Windows 98
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista (with Windows XP compatibility settings)
- Windows 7 (with Windows XP compatibility settings)
- Windows 8 (with Windows XP compatibility settings)
- Windows 10 (with Windows XP compatibility settings, and the latest patches)
- Intel and AMD processors have both worked, both 32bit and 64bit.
- Only 1 person has yet reported success with virtual machines, a Windows XP VM on Windows 10 but no other details.
- Mac support via Wine related programs is in the works, but is somewhat unstable.
- The beta requires patches to run at all on any known systems.
Please note that REBUILT only officially supports Windows 7 and above.
Issues Running the Game:
Graphics Issues:
No compatible Direct 3D device found, followed by black screen at menu:
Update your GPU drivers, and then try launching the game again
Levels render all-black:
Final Build:
The game executable is not compatible with most systems (some 3dfx Voodoo GFX cards might work). The game requires patching to make it compatible with most systems – see the repaired download options.
Alpha 0.006:
The default configuration is not compatible with most systems (some 3dfx Voodoo GFX cards might work). If the game levels are all-black (maybe with some particles), try editing the “Bionicle.ini” file.
- Close the game if it is running, go to the install directory, and edit “Bionicle.ini”.
- Find the line that says ‘SvpRad=0’, and replace it with ‘SvpRad=1’.
- Failing that, update your GPU drivers, and then try launching the game again
In Alpha 0.006, levels render all-white:
- Load into Onua’s level, quit to the menu, and then load up the effected levels.
- Close the game if it is running, go to the install directory, and make sure the exe is set to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
- Edit “Bionicle.ini”. Find the line that says ‘SvpOther=0’ and replace it with ‘SvpOther=2’.
Intro Videos Not Working:
Disable Videos Via Argument:
The game accepts a command line argument of “-nointro” to skip the videos.
You can edit the shortcut to add “-nointro” or run it by command line.
Disable Videos by Renaming the Video Files:
If the video files are moved or renamed, the game will just skip them.
Rename all the “.bik” files under “LEGO Media/LEGO Bionicle/Data/cinematics/”.
Playing the Game:
Debug & Test Menus:
Accessing various areas of the game that otherwise can’t be reached can be achieved via the in-game debug menu. Make sure your Bionicle.ini file has the lines “Cheatmenu=LEGOTester” and under the [Cheat] section “Cheat=NoGreenCapes” then press the delete key anywhere within a level to open the debug menu. You can navigate the menu with page up and page down, and use the home button to confirm a selection. Please note that the cheats are case sensitive. Additional debug options can be accessed via the insert key.
A debug camera can also be activated with numpad 0 in alpha, and numpad / in beta & REBUILT. Movement of the camera is controlled by numpad 1, 3, 8, and 2, with 5 serving as a speed toggle. You can teleport your character to the camera’s location with standard /.
Alpha 0.006-specific notes:
Game controls can be found under the help section in the pause menu in-level (press escape to open the pause menu).
Be warned that there are some places in the game that will result in your progress being saved in a bad place, forcing you to restart the level unless you have a backup. You can get a simple Python script you can use to make backups of your save file every time it changes here.
Patches & Support:
The current patches are always kept up to date by the launcher. Patch notes are included in the install directory and in the launcher’s main page. Additionally, a comprehensive known bugs list can be found on our Github, which is our current hub for continued development and bug fixing. If you require further assistance with issues or patches that have not been answered via other channels, please visit the Help and Support section of the Litestone Studios Discord Server.
