I'm honestly curious with what you'll do to mash, and stitch parts together to make one hell of a theme. What ever you think makes a good leadin, where ever you think parts should be. So long as the song has interesting shifts, and always sounds hectic, and that "everything is on the line" feel to it.
So far, it sounds like the songs that'll be used in his theme are "Hard as Hell", "Welcome to the Future", and "Over and Over" So that already offers an interesting lineup to mash, and stitch together, especially if you have custom samples you want to add here, and there from when you were esperimenting with a custom theme.

Btw, the best place to sample from would be his Bandcamp releases if somebody is willing to pay 9 pounds for Zero One. It's not the same version as what on Spotify though so it doesn't include everything.
However apparently his bandcamp uses the original studio masters

99% of what he lists is jazz.

FYI I have that one downloaded if you want to peruse it yourself
Savage is a really good contender for something to use
The more of his stuff I listen to and the more I think about Makuta, the more I'm getting a feel for what the musical progression should be.
It should start off with something bassy and energetic for phase 1, moving onto something a bit more percussion heavy for phase 2, and finally shifting entirely to something dark and chaotic for phase 3. Which Savage fits quite nicely (edited)

I mean, I'll happily take copies of any of his work, and songs like it to keep in my personal collection. Also, I'm eager to hear what you have in mind for the music. You've shown you're fantastic with mixing music together, so Makuta's theme will definitely be a great listen while fighting.

I agree that music should always be the highest quality available, but in the case of this game, compression isn't too bad a thing to a small degree given this is a 2001 game, so it wouldn't be out of place. But I do mostly agree with Vahkiti, even though I know little about music pruction norms.

I'm assuming the part you wanted me to listen to is only 2:30, but so far I'm loving the direction. It really has this unnerving feel for when Makuta is first making himself known to you, only to then form the shadow Rahi to fight you. I'm eeager to hear what the song will shift into when he turns into his brutish titan-esque form between Rahi phases.

Well, firstly, just experimenting with Makuta's voice wasn't inherently linked to your idea, The King, and in this case it was just pitch-shifting MAtoran voices, while your suggestion was a lot different. Second, Vahkiti, as far as I know, has shown no intent on changing Makuta's voice as we stand. Could that change in the future? Maybe, but that's not the agenda for the moment.

It could be a constant acid flow from all of them, I'd say, and as more come into view, more begin starting their acid flow causing a heck of a spectacle, I'd say.
Like, imagine adding a valve to the snake's back, and when they start spitting the valve continuously spins. I think that is a cool thought.

Hm.. The island itself is just generally tribal, anyhow, so the drums as a miniboss theme work, and let you know it's time for a miniboss. Also, the variant for ROLL isn't what I was thinking when I said we could replace some of the surfing music, but still, I think that might not go over well with how many people are attached to the song there, now.

It isn't outwardly mentioned, no, but just changing a song people associate to an area that's been one way for a while can cause some backlash. Maybe I'm overthinking, that's possible, butpeople do notice little changes like that, and if the majority dislike that, we'll just annoy them, and have to revert the change, later. I'm not opposed to getting experimental, and tossing music around to see what fits where, but what people outside of development feel about what fits is also something to consider.

Does this mean there was a plan, and maybe even a maybe, maybe not lost animated cutscene for the end of the game, or at the least a referenced set of what was going to happen?? So far we know Makuta's themes are going to primarily be a creative mashup of Paul Hardcastle's music, so the ide for that is mostly met, it just needs execution. BIONICLE Age is a neat song, but how many lyrics it has in it always threw me off the idea of it. Obey the Force has less lyrics, and they'd only start up near the end of the whole song. Hm. The two songs back to back could fill that time, then. I'd think Obey the Force fits as an ending, and a beginning for the credits well, but BIONICLE Age, in my personal opinion, only works as a beginning, but it would be a pretty strong beginning. Then after it ends, the more steady rhythms of Obey the Force would lead us through the rest of the credits.

Like, Mechanism I see being very useful for the more ominous, yet laid back phases, it could be useful for some of the background, and complimentary tunes for such phases. Hell, it could be a recurring tune playing behind most of the songs, including Makuta's thrashing mech-like phase. Perhaps I'm overstating that one song, but it's more meant to convey there's quite a few with great potential for it. A mashup is meant to mash multiple songs into one, so definitely don't let good assets go to waste.

uncompressed audio really bloats game filesize, and has greatly contributed to games having huge download sizes in recent years. For Rebuilt we should redo the cutscene audio sometime
I nticed the musical and SFX cues are a lot nicer in the abridged versions of vanilla beta
We should try and replicate that
Lewa and Pohatu's meeting scenes are a good example
The music starts and stops at key points and it accentuates the goings on
In the alpha audio, it just plays constantly

I do agree there needs to be some redoing as a whole
The meetups especially use a lot of weird SFX for the mask transfer
Such as the otherwise unused (in vanilla) collection and activation noises for the Ruru

I know we've probably been over this before, but the lewa nui rama cutscene in main is weird
IIRC it's the same cutscene but scripted to play from a specific frame.
Unfortunately the audio was never changed and has no way to sync up to this. I went into my vanilla backup to double check this
We never broke that, it was apparently just broken from the start
I have edited the audio according to what the cutscene needs

Funny thing is there may actually be far MORE.
The final build of the game was burned to CDs by senior staff of Saffire when their doors closed and given to people who worked on the project, which is where we got our beta copy from Mr. Darvell Hunt.

However the alpha that released in early 2018 is another story.
We still don't entirely know where that came from, but we do know that Lego received weekly builds of the game via FTP.
Since the game had roughly a year of development, that means that if anyone held onto those snapshots.. well there would still be quite a few different versions out there somewhere.

At any rate, for the reason I reached out to you, as I mentioned we've updated the soundtrack in our most recent commits with higher quality MP3s based on the uncompressed wavs sent to us by David Madden. I'll send a quick comparison for you, but suffice to say, doing the same thing with the SFX would be nice, and so far you seem to have an ear for it.

On the side at BioMedia Project, we've also been digging in to the SFX and music samples used in MNOG. So far it seems like a great deal of them came from Sound Cube, but we're still digging. It's unfortunate that a lot of those sample packs are nearly impossible to find these days.
