Skilled Matoran lived and worked in six bustling districts of a great city, Metru Nui, which floats on a protodermis sea. Six Matoran were given Toa Stones by the city’s lone Toa, Lhikan, which turned them into Toa heroes.
When Toa Lhikan was captured by Dark Hunters, the six new Toa were guided by a vision from Toa Vakama of fiery Ta-Metru: find six Great Kanoka Disks and use them to help save the city. Their tasks were difficult, made harder by the jealous or distrusting Matoran who failed to see them as true Toa. After finally recovering the disks, they were ridiculed and half were imprisoned by Turaga Dume, leader of the city.
The Toa soon discovered a horrible truth: Dume was not himself – Makuta was impersonating the Turaga and forcing the Matoran citizens to enter stasis pods.
Like the Toa who would appear after them on the island of Mata Nui, the six new Toa Metru struggled to work find their elemental powers and work together. They battled hordes of mechanical Vahki, guardians of the city under the control of false Dume.
Only by joining forces and using the Mask of Time could the Toa vanquish Makuta and his servants – but there would be a terrible price to pay.
