Matoro is the sole interpreter of Nuju's stories, following the meaning of his movement and tones. He always stands motionless to Nuju's right during storytelling, in his narrator pose: legs apart, head back and using his deep and booming voice. Matoro has a tendency to show off, which makes him look really conceited. As a result, the other natives of his village, Ko-Koro, like to play practical jokes on him -- but he takes them in good spirit.
